RMS Immigrant Accompaniment Resources

These Rocky Mountain Synod Immigration Summit resources (updated 8/15/2025) are a curated starting point for congregations, leaders, and ministry partners who want to grow in faithful accompaniment of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Resources

RMS Immigrant Support fund

Due to the recent increase in detentions of immigrant neighbors in our communities, the Rocky Mountain Synod (RMS) created a restricted fund for the purpose of providing support to immigrants residing in the synod. RMS congregations helping accompanying immigrants may apply for funds to help immigrants with costs related to housing, food, travel, and legal fees. Congregations and individuals are invited to click the button below to give—select 'Immigrant Support Fund' from the drop–down menu.

Created in the Image of God:
Affirming Our Shared Dignity

The Bible writes of one human family, honored and elevated through the image of God that each of us bears. As a Christian community, we are grieved to hear language about human beings that does not honor the deep love Christ holds for them or the imago Dei — the image of God — that each of them carries.

Drawing on ELCA social teaching, this resource is intended to equip communities to see all people through the lens of God’s love and grace and to recognize and respond when language fails to acknowledge all people’s God-given dignity.

The God Who Sees Facilitator Guide

The God Who Sees, by Karen González. This facilitator guide supports your group’s journey through Karen González’s powerful exploration of Scripture, migration, and belonging. The God Who Sees weaves the author’s own immigration story with the biblical journeys of figures like Abraham, Hagar, Ruth, and Jesus to help us see how God sees those on the margins of society and calls us to radical hospitality and justice.

The Asylum Seekers, by Christina Rathbone

The Asylum Seekers: A Chronicle of Life, Death, and Community at the Border by Rev. Cristina Rathbone (Broadleaf Books, 2025) is a compassionate work of reportage and pastoral witness from the U.S.–Mexico border. Rathbone follows asylum-seeking families living in a makeshift camp near a port of entry, sharing intimate portraits of trauma and courage alongside the community’s daily rhythms of mutual care, leadership, and faith in the midst of profound uncertainty. The book invites readers to grapple with what dignity, welcome, and accompaniment can look like at the border—and in our own communities.
