The Rocky Mountain Synod Council provides compensation guidelines for rostered ministers serving in this synod. The guidelines worksheets propose salary in a range: low to high, rather than a single target number. The range takes into consideration the differences in Rocky Mountain Synod cost of living realities based upon regional differences and other suggested salary modifiers for education or previous non-ministry experience. The Guidelines include three documents including separate calculation worksheets for Pastors and Deacons.These Guidelines are not a mandate. A compensation committee appointed by the Synod Council reviews the documents and calculation worksheet modifiers each year to recommend any updates for the following year. Guidelines for compensation are just that: guidelines. Different contexts and communities must be taken into consideration, and each congregation should review the documents in light of the congregation's past history.
The 2019 Churchwide Assembly of the ELCA adopted a number of changes to the Model Constitution for Congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Every congregation is to make these changes in your constitution to be in sync with the ELCA constitution.
